The best way to discover the loveliest spots

Cycling in Almere

Cycling in Almere is just lovely. We have a complete network of cycling paths laid on for cyclists from which anyone can choose their own route depending on distance. All routes are possible in either direction, following numbered signposts from junction to junction. A summary of these cycling routes on the crossroads system is shown below.

Cycling routes
Almere is the place to discover via bike. To make it easy for you, the Tourist Information Office (VVV)has made up six routes, each with its own theme. There are short ones and long ones, through woods and parks or past imposing buildings. You can buy this cycle route map at VVV Almere for €3.95.

I-Tour 360
I-Tour 360 is Almere's first interactive tour. For €5, your hire a smart phone with GPS that will lead you past some unique architecture and lovely places of natural beauty and will also show you everything about how that particular place came about and how Almere has grown. With audio, video and text, the I-Tour 360 will tell you where you are walking or cycling, how it used to look there and how it will look in the future! The I-Tour 360 is available at VVV Almere and from the information centre in Almere Poort.

Country Park 'De Kemphaan' Cycling routes, Flevolandschap
Various cycle routes actually start from the information centre at the Kemphaan Country Park. You can really explore our favourite places of natural beauty following 'Flevolandschap's cycle routes' which lead you through the wonderful Pampushout (a fairly large forested area) and the Lepelaarsplassen (a lake system surrounded by woodland). Many excursions are planned from here – there are loads to choose from.

There is a 15km long signposted mountain bike run in the Kotterbos (yet another of our woods). This starts at the naturist's camp in Kotterbos on the Aakweg. Another 2m broad (and 25km long!) cycle path runs through the Almeerderhout (guess! Yup, more woods!) and takes you through a lovely and varying polder landscape.

Get there faster, by bike
Almere was so designed that the bike is almost always faster than the car. The extensive network of signposted crossroads makes it really easy to cycle through the town and as the bike lanes are totally separate from the roads and other traffic, it is particularly relaxing and safe to cycle in Almere! Of course, VVV Almere has already selected the loveliest bike routes for you and we also hire out some really good, sporty bikes – electric ones too!
