Apart from Almere's main waterways there are lots of smaller canals, perfectly suitable for canoes. Get a map with handy routes from each of Almere's VVV information centres, canoe hire shops and the lock-keeper. VVV has mapped out 3 routes for you already so you need never get lost. You could also take GPS with you – 'we have the technology Jim!' Here's a tip: paddle your canoe gently along our 'Hoge Wetering' (one of the main waterways) and you just might see a beaver! VVV Almere has developed a handy map for touring the waterways and simplifying the navigation of Almere. You will find nautical information here like moorings, lock opening times, and bridge heights as well as info. on the best place to launch your own boat. But also important things to know like, where to find cafés and restaurants on the water and where best to moor your boat if you want to do some shopping. There are 3 routes all mapped out for you too! It only costs €1.00 from the VVV but is actually FREE from the lock-keep in Almere Haven if you happen to go through there. Or download the app to your I-phone or I-Pad.
