Almere has such well stocked waterways that the World Fresh Water Fishing Championship was held here.

Surrounded and criss-crossed by water and waterways, there is plenty good fishing in Almere. Within Almere's boundaries you can fish on the Noorderplassen, the Lepelaarsplassen, Oostvaardersplassen and... oh loads more! In 2009, the World Fresh Water Fishing Championships were held on our 'Hoge Vaart', specifically because of the excellent fishing to be had.

Do realise that you must have a Nationale Vispas (national fishing permit) to be allowed to fish Almere's waters. Get one from http://www.sportvisserijnederland.nl/

VVV Almere has developed a handy map for touring the waterways and simplifying the navigation of Almere. You will find nautical information here like moorings, lock opening times, and bridge heights as well as info. on the best place to launch your own boat. But also important things to know like, where to find cafés and restaurants on the water and where best to moor your boat if you want to do some shopping. There are 3 routes all mapped out for you too! It only costs €1.00 from the VVV but is actually FREE from the lock-keep in Almere Haven if you happen to go through there. Or download the app to your I-phone or I-Pad.
