Discover Almere

Almere is a young city with a short but unique history. Located just 20 minutes from Amsterdam, the city boasts 42 kilometres of coastline, a rich natural environment, impressive architecture and, not least, numerous exciting events. Take a cycle ride through the acclaimed Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve or shop till you drop in Almere Centrum, combined with refreshments at a pavement café in the sun: certainly a recipe for a perfect day out.

Exceptional natural environment

Close to Almere lies the exclusive Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve. Go on an expedition with a ranger and discover the natural habitats of red deer, Konik horses, white-tailed sea eagles, foxes and kingfishers. But Almere has even more nature in store. The Lepelaarplassen lakes are a haven for marsh and waterbirds and the observation huts here offer sightings of such delights as colonies of cormorants and sedge warblers.
